I recently had to go to the hospital for a minor operation which meant that I had to take general anesthesia. I’ve never gone under the knife before but the one thing I was worried the most about getting knocked out.
All sorts of crazy questions went through my mind including, ‘what if the drugs don’t work?’ or ‘what if I’m still conscious throughout the procedure?’.
In the end the whole experience was rather unremarkable. One moment I’m lying on the operating table, they put an IV line into my hand and then next moment I’m waking up on a bed in the recovery room.
I’m glad that it all went well but I’m determined that as far as possible I don’t want to be in a hospital situation ever again.
